As a wannabe crafter

I really really want to be a crafter. With marriage and having a child, my creative side suddenly sprang forth. I have accumulated a stash of pins, zips, fabrics, felt, beads and crafting tools to prepare for my journey. Buying them one at a time greatly reduces the feeling of "costliness", I put the overall cost in between rm345 - rm400.

I have been experimenting here and there with hand sewing a variety of things. Some looked okay to me but most looked not ok. Yes, I think some are ugly. But then when I put them aside where I can't see them and look at them back after a week, they seem to look ok.

Yesterday I tried handsewing a wallet. But I looked weird and as I tried to finish it at 2 am, I decided that I better sleep than doing something which begins to feel like a failure. Maybe tomorow I'll look at it again. Meanwhile I need to reorganize my craft supplies. They are all over the place arghhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I have shared with you that I am crafty once in awhile. While I was hand sewing last night I remembered my single years spent doing nothing. I rarely crafted those days and people don't even know that I can actually draw things. Now where is my pen and paper.

Kyoot Khamis: Flower from Fabric

I wanted so much to make flowers like these but so far my attempt wasn't as lovely as these. Practice more maybe.

photo borrowed from http://cherrystreetcottage.blogspot.com

These are great as a brooch, as part of a necklace, to adorn handbag and also can be pinned on blouse. Oh and fixed onto a scarf for a baby.

You want to make one? See the tutorials here : http://cherrystreetcottage.blogspot.com/2011/03/fabric-flower-tutorial-at-last.html

I'm not a photoshop genius but.

I made this for facebook promotion.

This is the actual work behind the scene. Hope Sayed Munawar thinks his hair looks real enough.

Kyoot Khamis : Pom pom

Ok I did not make this. I merely wanted to share this with you.
Lepas ni kalau nak buat pom-pom tak payah garu kepala penat2 pikir.
Ini caranya.

Am I succesful?

First of all if you really want to know whether you are 'succesful' or not don't ask anyone else. Different people will give different answer so if you don't want to get hurt don't ask. I admit as a somewhat thick skinned person, I am sometimes hurt by people's opinion about me. So I will never ever ask anybody whether I am succesful or not. People have different measurements that they go by. Some people will say that having a good job, making good money, car, house, a beautiful spouse, having talents like cooking, singing, looking happy all the time equals to perfection which means succesful.

I just found out that my marks for last year's and this year's work performance is the same. It's not that bad nor is it good which prompts me to ask myself, am I succesful at work?

Sincerely, I think I am doing ok at work. I went to a few outstation assignments, did a few volunteer work for the organization and learned to do some new things.

Hmmm, what are my plans this year? I hope I can learn more these days. Maybe enter a few contests, whether conducted by my organisation or not doesn't matter. I am just thinking of doing something out of the usual.

During my alone time. Usually not so alone because I nursed the baby to sleep. BTW he is 20 months now. (short months to 2 years old, time for his own bed then.) So, during my alone times I was thinking of doing the best at work and also doing the best for my personal life. Apart from being a better mother and wife, I want to be a better craft maker.

I have been concentrating at least once a week on my crafts. Check my pinterest here http://pinterest.com/naderara/my-creation/. I have been looking up for tutorials in the internet and trying them. Some came out looking delicious while some came out looking fucked out. Hahahahaha, when it comes to photography and craft making I am my own worst self critic.

My version of ME being succesful is of course praying 5 times a day, being modest in clothing, less gossiping, cooking more home cooked food for family (although my cooking are not really mouth watery I think I do good for my own tounge at least), knowing how to drive, knowing how to use a sewing machine, having a growing craft business, buying a home, write a novel or two....... perghhh the list goes on and on. For now I am about 50 percent there. Sometimes I see the glass as half full, and sometimes half empty. You can't be cheery all the time right? But I am usually optimistic about life. I have a baby now so life is cheery basically, saving my own ass has become secondary to saving baby's ass.

Back to the question of being succesful. There's this woman younger than me in my facebook page. I noticed her when she was in this breastfeeding group. Then she added me as a friend and I approved. She worked with a bank but was also selling breastfeeding related product such as Medela breast milk pump and also storage bottles. Then she started selling her own self made baby carriers like mine below.

Mine is from Pognae from Korea, but I bought it second hand in Malaysia.

While browsing her photos, I also saw that she is also a wedding photographer. Recently, she posted about finally quitting work and being a stay at home full time mom. I thought of her as being a succesful person. She can stay at home and give her 3 children full attention, fully breastfeeding her youngest child, working at home and also a photographer. The first time I saw her many talents I said WOW.

Now, I am not trying to emulate her but this is an instance of my definition of succesful. She seems to have it all. Hmmm.

If compared to her, I think of myself as somewhat lacking something because of a few things such as not having a driver's license. But thinking now I don't think that I am a failure nor am I am succesful yet. I think I am ok. So right now, I think being comfortable in my own skin is more important than thinking about the things I don't have. But this does not mean that I am just going to continue being a co passenger. I'll get that license when I can.

Well, see you later. Gotta go fetch my baby. And am still walking here and there with him in my ssc.

Kyoot Khamis : Box from magazine

Anyone who buys a lot of magazines will have a lot of information on hand without needing to log on to the Internet. But, we also know that at the end of the month, the mountain of magazine continues to grow and it will become a conflict of whether to throw the old ones away or just keep it and create clutter.

I used to buy about 8 magazines a month until I saw the amount of magazines burgeoning. Now I surf a lot, use Pinterest to see the latest fashion and trends. Since 2 months ago I practiced self restraint and has since bought only one magazine to occupy my time on a 6 hour bus ride.

For magazine lovers recycle your old magazine which you haven't touch for a year into boxes.

Here's the tutorial.

My Penang visit

Hi, I just got back from Penang. I had to swing by the office for some work. Anyway while my files are uploading here's some instagrams from Penang.

On Monday, my boss asked if someone wants to go to a course in Penang. Originally my office mate got the letter but she took a year of unpaid leave following some family matter. So I grabbed this oppurtunity, it isn't everyday that we go to Malacca right.

The course is titled 'How To Attract Listeners and Viewers.' I thought it was about how to produce programs or something. But it was actually how to use social media to attract your viewers. We were shown facebook marketing, twitter, trends and hashtags. We also got a lesson on how to use Youtube.

Cyberwar?

The lecturer said an organization should appoint a media social admin who will oversee the media social every moment of the day. Any tweets should be answered within 2 minutes. We are nowhere near that capacity yet, as all the administrators are on voluntary basis.

Today at 10 am. After the certificate giving ceremony we were unleashed into the Penang. Some were talking about buying jeruk or fermented food which is what Penang is famous for. So we headed to a jeruk shop which was a street opposite from a PDRM building. We stayed at Hotel Royal Penang, the hotel was good and the food very delicious.

While going to and from the jeruk shop, I had some opportunity to capture the essence of Penang.

Such cute houses, in between the shophouses.
Mr Leong I too would want to stay here.

I don't know what this building is.
But very old school.

There are lots of old buildings. Some were left derelict unfortunately.
But the refurbished ones are sights to behold.

The sky was a beautifully dotted with white cottony cloud.
Instagram could only take square pics. Am not sure if there's a rectangle format these days.

Pasar Chowrasta, next time I am going to vidit you.

Penang is also known for its Street Art.
The jeruk shop sold some cute street art postcards.
Each is 50 cents so I grabbed 10 with different pictures on it.
Three of  the postcards bear this art of little girl and boy on a bicycle.
The boy reminded me so much of my baby.

Mika!

Green building.

I had a good time at Penang. Apart from collecting knowledge I also had the chance to eat, eat and eat.

I also got the chance to read a collection of short stories by Khairulnizam Bakeri while on the bus.
It was a 6 hour ride from KL, including two half hour stops on the way. So after sleeping like 2 hours I read the novel on and off. Since it is a collection of short stories, I had no problem with continuity.
But it sure feel good to hold a novel.

On the way back they handed everyone a boxful of kuih. There's this palm sized murtabak.
Yummy! Murtabak is a pastry with shredded beef, eggs and onion in it.
