Aliens In The Attic - my review

"This movie is purely for the kids" was my thought while exiting the theatre. Then I heard a girl walking behind me commenting to her friend. "The movie is cute, fun and has everything an adventure should have. I am going to recommend it to the 'budak-budak' " I wondered whether the 'budak=budak' she mentioned was merely a reference to her friends or real kids aka budak-budak.

The movie is about aliens who landed on the attics of a vacation home. Their ultimate motive is to conquer earth but first they have to retrieve a mysterious contraption hidden under the basement. 'Aliens in the attic' has all the characters of a typical children's adventure; the sceptic parents, the older sister with a himbo boyfriend who opresses her brother, the little sister who 'cutifies' everything that looks innocent, the cousins and also the rookie bad guy who switched sides.

However someone thought that the movie does not seem suitable for kids at all. As described by a commentator on IMDB "There are too many things that it seems to condone that are wrong for children. The relationship between one of the older boys and his father is a reversed relationship. The father considers his teen son to be adults so the boy has no rules. Then you have the super smart boy that feels so embarrassed about his intelligence that he flunks all of his classes on purpose. " There were a few elements in the movie which may cause questions in some people's mind but I didn't think twice about them. But as a parent maybe one might see all these as bad examples for their kids especially when we compare it to our local movies which seems to have one or two moral things pointed out. Anyway to watch such movies you have to be relax and enjoy it like how you would a bowl of cereal, without much thought.
