My home is in Johor Bahru and we get to watch all Singapore TV Channels. On some nights one of the channel - named Channel 5 back then - will air American Grade B movies which were usually science fiction. This happened more than 15 years ago when I was in primary school. I remembered some of the movies my family and I had watched because they were weird and thus clearly imprinted in my mind.
One of the movie I watched was a movie which was set in the future. After scouring the Internet I found out the movie's name was 'Cherry 2000' filmed in 1987. So this movie is 23 years old now. Below is an excerpt from IMDB.
"In a post-apocalyptic world in the year 2017, Sam Treadwell (David Andrews), the head of an Anaheim recycling plant, employed a perfect girlfriend -- a rare, irreplaceable, top-of-the-line blonde-haired sex robot named Cherry 2000 (Pamela Gidley). She was programmed with a shiny "chip" (similar to a quarter-sized mini CD) behind her ear. The film had the tagline: "She's Blond, Beautiful and Forever Young." However, he found it difficult to replace her when she shorted out (wearing a tight red dress and yellow rubber gloves) when they were love-making on the floor and soapy water overflowed. When Sam went to a robot factory to get a replacement body for his girlfriend, his choices included Robby the Robot (from
Forbidden Planet (1956) and Gort (from The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951))"
Forbidden Planet (1956) and Gort (from The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951))"
Let me summarize it from what I remembered. In the movie's futuristic setting humans who can afford it had robotic sexual partner because sexually transmitted diseases were rampant. Having sexual relationship with a robot means they avoid such diseases and get to choose the physical characteristics of their robots. In short perfect girlfriend. So this guy Sam has a blond robot which got electrocuted in the kitchen. Here's a picture I grabbed from the net just for you.
He was very much in love with his robot and demanded a similar robot but the manufacturer told him the only one available is in a robot factory located far far away. However he was determined and began his journey to get his beloved robot's new body. He hired a woman to help him find the robot and they traveled there together.
I remembered that there were bad guys chasing after them and eventually Sam found his robot. He inserted the memory disc and the robot came alive. Then the bad guys arrive and they ran and hid. As a last minute effort the woman he hired helped cover his back so he could escape with Cherry. This changed his mind, so he left the robot and rescued the woman instead . So humans prevailed in the end!

Oh boy. Oh boy. Oh boy. Oh boy. Oh boy. Oh boy.
opppps this was actually a draft. let me edit it first.
i accidentally posted it when i was cleaning my drafts eysterday.
Sound very practical and a safe way from the disease, but then the probability of getting electrocuted while romping with a machine in a wet condition is very high :)
But you'll never know in the future...
